Un-Docked!

Following one hurricane and a tropical storm that should have been classified as a hurricane, the dock at our winter residence in Florida was left unserviceable.

Our landlord of ten years was not able to get the dock repaired before our arrival. His favorite contractor has more on the table than he can handle. We’ve been here two weeks. Nothing’s happening.

So, I shopped Facebook Marketplace for independent service providers, replied to a select few, and posted a solicitation on a local Buy/Sell/Trade Marketplace sub-group. Bingo!

I have a quote from a retired industrial arts teacher from Michigan. Might be a third of what I’d hear from a brand-name marine service. Most of the providers who respond to this type of inquiry will not be bonded and insured. Compensate with contingent workman’s comp on your homeowner’s insurance policy and an umbrella liability policy. You probably need to have these in place anyway.

What are you doing to get it done? Tell me in the comments.
