It’s Tinkerer Wednesday! Today I’m contemplating the fill port on a West Bend Manufacturing Webalco 17209 liquid-core electric skillet, and wondering where I can get high-temperature silicone heat-transfer oil on the cheap.
Update: A reader recommended DOT5 silicone brake fluid. I tried it. It works!

You can pick up a replacement skillet at a yard sale cheaper that you can get the oil. M Faster, too, and more likely to contain more real silicone oil that you can get on line

That’s absolutely true. I’m being stubborn, waiting to see if West Bend sends me a bottle.

LOOKS LIKE AREA WHERE SEAL SEATS NEEDS CLEANING TO FUNCTION REASONABLY.

MIGHT WORK WELL IN THE ELECTRIC SKILLET.

Thanks for the comment! I did clean it up before refilling. I’m glad the gasket was pliable, because it would have been difficult to replace.
Caldera 5 heat transfer fluid looks perfect for the application. I found a couple of similar products, but they were a lot more expensive than DOT5 silicone.

Inexpensive is OK if you are not cooking with the skillet. Food grade stuff for cooking is my preference. Since I do have two of the devices maybe using one for parts is an option for me.
I remember going to a fuel and lubricant additive research facility a while back.
